Washington State Cage Fighting Championships - May 31st, 2008

Highline Community College - Des Moines, Washington

Former IFL Seattle Tigershark and owner of West Coast Fitness, Reese Andy, put on the promoters cap for the first time with the inaugural Washington State Cage Fighting Championships at Highline Community College Saturday night. With 12 action packed fights that went off without a hitch and a raucous crowd that packed the house, Andy can definitely be proud of his and his crew's efforts. Besides the West Coast Fight Team crew, the Xtreme Promotions duo of Tad Bremer and Christopher Cope lent a hand by providing the cage and Cope's commanding stage and voice presence as the ring announcer.

A number of professional fighters besides Reese Andy were also present including IFL fighters Brad Blackburn and Shad Lierly, Ex-IFL Tigersharks Bristol Marunde (who is headlining a Pro/Am MMA card at the Emerald Queen Casino Sat. June 7th) and Travis Doerge (who is headlining the Aug 22nd Pro/Am MMA card at the Little Creek Casino), former world kickboxing champ Victor Solier , and pro boxer and competitor of Season 2 of ESPN's The Contender, Walter "2 Guns" Wright

The fights themselves started out with a blink and you'll miss it KO kick by Armond Allen to the head of Tad Sitchaisai ending their kickboxing bout in just 6 seconds. From there, plenty of action ensued in the remaining 12 bouts from a host of up and coming amateur fighters representing such teams from around Western Washington such as the West Coast Fight Team, Eastside MMA, Team Psycho, Brian Johnson Kickboxing Academy, Chasai Muay Thai, Foster BJJ, Twin Dragons, Ringsports United, and the Roughhouse Gym. In the main event, Ringsports United's Demico Rogers continued on his unbeaten streak as an amateur by surviving West Coast Fight Team's Wil Ngotel's takedown, deftly reversing and gaining mount, and then raining down unanswered punches before referee Joe DeRobbio stepped in to stop the beating at 40 seconds of the first round.

Reese Andy will hold the next Washington State Cage Fighting Championships on Saturday, July 19th at Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue, Washington.
