WEC
Featherweight Champ Urijah Faber |
The
Challenger Jens Pulver |
It was all smiles
as Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver get ready to compete in what many are calling the biggest fight in the history of the World Extreme Cage fighting organization. The current champ and number one ranked 145lb fighter in the world, Urijah
"California Kid" Faber talked mostly about his respect for the challenger (and first ever UFC lightweight champ), Jens
"Lil' Evil" Pulver. Faber spoke about how excited he was to fight in front of his hometown,
"its a comfort for me" said Faber feeling no pressure
fighting at home.
"Sunday we will see who deserves to wear this belt!" Both fighters spoke of the significance of this
bout for the little guys and how even just a couple of years ago there was no place in the big shows for the little guys. The challenger Jens
"Lil' Evil" Pulver spoke about his happiness to fight at his natural weight and how great it is to have a show this big supporting the smaller fighters. Pulver also stated how thankful he was about Faber staying at 145 and keeping the class alive. Pulver stated he will stay at 145.
"This is my natural weight." said Pulver, "I love this
weight."
WEC
Bantamweight Champ Miguel Torres |
The
Challenger Yoshiro Maeda |
In the co-main event, 135lb champ Miguel Torres is defending his belt for the first time against Yoshiro Maeda from Japan. Maeda a former Pancrase champion states
"I will definitely win this title and go back to Japan!" Maeda is an aggressive striker who is very determined and spoke only about winning the fight.
The champ was very quiet and talked about how he felt he
hasn't even shown all of his skills yet in the cage. "On Sunday I will show you what I can
do" said Torres, "I haven't [just] been training the last two months.
I've been training my whole life for this moment." Both fighters are very emotional and ready. This will be another great match up in an already stacked card put together by match maker Reed Harris and the WEC.
