West Coast Fight Team presents "Winter Storm" - Dec 13, 2008

The aptly titled "WINTER STORM" fight night took place Saturday, Dec 13th at Highline Community College, just South of Seattle. Even with snow , the turnout was still close to capacity with the crowd of rabid fans ready to cheer on their favorite fighters who hailed from such fight clubs as West Coast Fight Team (Renton), Team Psycho (Tacoma), United Fight Team (Lacey), Brian Johnson Kickboxing Academy (Olympia), Full Circle Fight Club (Bremerton), Ring Demon (Tukwila), Rough House Gym (Bremerton), Clan Jacobs (Shelton) and Evolution MMA.

The well-run show was put together by UFC Fighter and co-owner of West Coast Fitness in Renton, Reese Andy, and had 1 Submission grappling, 1 Kickboxing, and 10 Mixed Martial Arts matchups. Plenty of action ensued with a healthy mix of decisions, submission victories, and TKO's via strikes. In the main event, Lightweight Jonathon Moore representing Full Circle Fight Club took on an undefeated Bantamweight Jeff Hatton from West Coast Fight Club. This weight mismatch was due to Hatton's original opponent being unable make it across the mountains due to the storm, and the 135 lb Hatton and 155lb Moore agreeing to fight each other. The fight was still a good one but Moore was able to use his extra bulk to his advantage in moving Hatton against the cage and taking him down. On the ground Moore got in a better number of punishing shots and was able to open a cut on Hatton's face that stopped the fight after the 2nd round.

The fight of the night belonged to Chris Inman (United Fight Team) and Calvin Horton (Team Psycho) in the 175 lb weight class. This fight saw plenty of back and forth action with both fighters going for submissions and landing clean kicks and punches throughout. However it was Horton who was getting the better of Inman and who surely was ahead on the judges scorecards when, with just a minute left in the fight, Inman caught Horton in a fight ending armbar to reverse fortune and snatch victory in a dramatic fashion.

UFC fighters, Reese Andy as the promoter and Brad Blackburn acting as one of the judges, were involved in the show and both were introduced to the crowd during the intermission as they are fighting on the undercard December 27th at UFC 92 in Las Vegas. Blackburn will be facing Ryo Chonan at 170 lbs, while Andy is taking on Matt Hamill at 205 lbs. Local pro standout, Travis Doerge, was also introduced to the crowd and will be figting in the main event at the next Carnage at the Creek show at the Little Creek Casino in early 2009. The fights also helped support the Wrestling Program at Highline Community College, only one of 2 college wrestling programs left in the State of Washington, and Head Coach Scott Norton and Assistant Coach Matt Hoover were introduced to the crowd.
