The United South East Asia Cultural Association (USEACA) held it's fifth Showdown event on Saturday November 16th at the Nisqually Youth Center in Olympia. With 15 fights, nearly all of them Muay Thai, the night was packed with head kicks, knees, & punches, plus elbows in the title fights. The fighters came from around Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and beyond, representing the following camps: Team Chalambok, Neuroline Muay Thai & Fitness, Brain Johnson Academy, Evolution MMA, Northwest Martial Arts, Chaisai Muay Thai, West Coast Fight Club, New Born Jujitsu, WKX GYM, Ring Demon, Muay Thai Kai Singthong, Portland Thai Boxing, Thongsai Muay Thai, United Source Muay Thai, Dan Burke Camp, and Titan MMA.
The two co-main events proved to be an exciting end to a good night - the first a 160 lb Title fight match up between Nathan Sutterfield of Oregon City's Burke Camp Muay Thai and Daniel Olson of Vancouver BC's Muay Thai Kai Singthong. Both fighters wobbled the other with heavy hands, but it was Olson's effective use of his reach that secured him the win and belt with a TKO right hand that badly dazed Sutterfield.
The last fight was a five round battle for the 117 lb Muay Thai title with WKX Gym's Criscarlo Chua coming out ahead of Portland Thai Boxing's Brandon Beck after losing the first round. Beck had a distinct reach advantage and put it to great use in the first. Chua adjusted and was able to win the next four rounds by punching his way in and getting inside. Once there, he'd land a good punch, end with a kick, and circle out to look for his next attack. The judges handed him the unanimous decision and the title.
Fight of the Night easily was the bout btween Ryan Quenneville from United Source Muay Thai and Hung Tran from Muay Thai Kai Singthong. These two fighters showed incredible knees in the clinch, aggressive combinations, and constant forward movement. The fight went all three rounds, each fighter landing solid kicks and punches, showing amazing balance and explosive knees in the Thai clinch. The left it up to the judges who came back with a split decision win for Ryan Quenneville in the closest fight of the night.
Knock out of the Night came by way of a liver punch, delivered by Luthfi Ganief of WKX Gym. His opponent Felix Burton used his hands and a series of spinning kicks against Ganief's solid technique. Ganief would gradually work the energetic Burton into the corner or onto the ropes and fire off combos, eventually placing a solid punch to the liver, dropping Burton to the canvas.
In the 170 lb Muay Thai Title fight, BC fighter Adam Fugitt of Thongsai Muay Thai outpointed Bobby King of United Source Muay Thai to garner the unanimous decision and the belt.
