Ronda Rousey crowned UFC 135 lb Women's Champion - Dec 6th 2012

UFC President Dana White officially announced today at the UFC on FOX 5 Press Conference in Seattle that undefeated Ronda Rousey (6-0) is the new UFC Women's 135 lb Champion. He also announced that she will make her first title defense of the belt against Strikeforce and Invicta FC veteran Liz Carmouche (7-2) in the main event of UFC 157 at the Honda Center in Anaheim CA on February 23rd.

 

25 year-old "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey was the Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion, winning the belt from Miesha Tate early in 2012 and beating Sarah Kaufman in a title defense in August. All of Rousey's 6 wins have come by way of 1st round armbar submissions including victories over Julia Budd and Sarah D'Alelio.

28 year-old Liz "Girl-rilla" Carmouche went 2-2 under the Strikeforce banner and is on a 2 fight win streak with Invicta FC. She has wins over Kaitlin Young, Ashleigh Curry, Jan Finney and Coleen Schneider, while her losses were to Marloes Coenen and Sarah Kaufman.
