United
Combat Sports LLC held "The Resolution 2", their 2nd annual Health, Fitness, and
MMA Expo on Saturday January 22nd at the Oregon State Fairgrounds
in Salem. This all day event featured a submission tournament,
plenty of vendors, and of course in the evening, 12 amateur cage
fights. This included 5 title bouts..
The
Fight of the Night was the Bantamweight Championship between
Benny Vinson and Vince Barner. This was a great matchup,
with Vinson punishing Barner throughout with some nice
ground and pound, while Barner worked for the triangle choke
numerous times, nearly catching Vinson. In the end though,
Vinson's punishment wore Barner down and Vinson was able to
submit Barner by way of Rear Naked Choke late in the fourth
round.
Another
great fight that featured plenty of action was for the
Middleweight Championship and it was Midtown MMA's Corey
Wyatt who took over down the stretch with some crisp
striking and nice groundwork before submitting Next Level
MMA's Eli Petersen in the fourth round.
The
final fight of the night was for the Welterweight
Championship and this was a fast one as Team Chaos' Dave
Webb caught Rod Jaques against the cage and put him to sleep
forcing ref Shawn Gregory to step in at just 34 seconds of
the 1st rd.
Andrew
Kea came out strong in the Flyweight Championship fight, and
chopped down Josh Roebuck (who took the fight on short
notice) with a couple of consecutive leg kicks midway
through the first that left Roebuck unable to continue.
During the
intermission, NW Fightscene's Spaniard presented United Combat
Sports with the NW Fightscene award for Best Pro Promotion of 2010
in Oregon, as well as honorable mention for Best Amateur Promotion
of 2010 in Oregon.
The Resolution 2 would not have been possible without its amazing sponsors
including Vicious Fightgear,
Close Combat, All American Coffee Company,
Venom Fight Skinz,
Knucklehead, Tony's Kingdom, Master's Tough Auto, Sub League, and NW
Fightscene.
United Combat Sports will be holding their next fight event April
9th from the Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, OR. More info
