United
Combat Sports LLC held the Northwest's first Health, Fitness, and
MMA Expo on Saturday January 23rd at the Oregon State Fairgrounds
in the state's capital of Salem. This all day event was a
resounding success and was capped off in the evening by 12 amateur
cage fights. Team Chaos, Bully Gang MMA and Dog Pound all provided
a number of fighters, with additional athletes hailing from
Armstrong MMA, Art of War, Arsenal, Brave Legion, Full Force MMA,
and 1 Independent.
The
main event was a matchup at 150 pounds between Matt Slosser of
Team Chaos and the Bully Gang's Shorty Weikel. Slosser worked
quickly delivering a fight ending guillotine choke at a minute and
a half through the first round.

In
the fight preceding the main event, also at 150 lbs, Joe Zambrano
out of Team Chaos had his elbow dislocated on a throw by Arsenal's
Zack Hector that instantly ended the fight just 43 seconds in.
Submission of the night came in the fourth bout with an inverted
armbar in the first round by featherweight
Vince Barner of Team Chaos on the Dog Pound's Mitchell Jones. The
KO of the night happened when heavyweight independent fighter, Kelly Nelson
connected on a right that put Cameron Holsclaw of the Dog Pound to
the canvas just 12 seconds in their fight.
Plenty
more great action ensued with a pretty even mix of submission and
TKO finishes, and one fight that went to decision. UFC Fighters Ed
"Short Fuse" Herman, Mike Pierce, and Rick "The
Horror" Story were cageside taking in the fights, as was
legendary MMA fighter Matt "The Law" Lindland. UFC and
IFL vet Reese Andy was also in the house providing his large pro
cage for the night's fights.
