Oregon Open Jiu Jitsu Championship to Benefit the Oregon Food Bank
HILLSBORO, Oregon (August 31, 2011) - On Saturday, October 1, 2011, Subleague.com
will present its sixth annual "Oregon Open Jiu Jitsu Championship". Oregon Open is the largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling competition in Oregon. Men, women, and children, ages 5 to 70, compete at the all-day event at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon.
In 2010, Oregon Open brought together 590 competitors and nearly 1,800 spectators from across the Northwest. With the growing popularity of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling, the event expects to draw even more fans and competitors in 2011. With more than seven years of tournaments held within the subleague.com family, Oregon Open is excited to once again put on a professional, smooth, timely, and fun event.
In an effort to give back to the community that has helped the subleague.com family of tournaments grow and succeed, Oregon Open has declared
it's October event to be a "Food and Fund Drive" for the Oregon Food Bank. Oregon Open will donate $2 from every regular-priced spectator ticket to the Oregon Food Bank. Those spectators who bring two non-perishable food items will receive discounted admission.
Subleague.com's spring Submission Wrestling League raised $1,857 and 853 pounds of food for the Oregon Food Bank. Although the League was three separate events, the organizers hope to compete with these numbers on October 1. Michael Chapman, subleague.com event manager, says,
"Many of the teams that come to our events are involved in their local communities. We are working to get the word out about the serious need to support families who are experiencing tough times. These families are
everywhere - in our neighborhoods, at our schools, members of our academies. By supporting the Food Bank at our events, we are supporting our friends and
neighbors." These efforts are enhanced by subleague.com's supporters, including 2010 and 2011 Presenting Sponsor Oregon National Guard.
Subleague.com encourages everyone to come out on October 1 to experience world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The Northwest is the home to many world Jiu Jitsu Champions, many of whom will compete at the Oregon Open. And
it's fun and family-friendly event.
Spectator Admission: $7 at the door ($2 goes to the Oregon Food Bank); $5 (with two non-perishable food items); Children ages 9 and under are free. Additional Oregon Food Bank donations are welcomed. Competition is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Doors open at 8 a.m. Learn more at
