Sportfight "Brawl in the Barn" - September 9th, 2011

Crook County Fairgrounds - Prineville, Oregon

Review, Post Interviews & Photos by Spaniard

Prineville, OR - Matt Lindland and Team Quest stormed into Crook County Fairgrounds "Run of The Cascades" motorcycle festival and put together a triumphant Mixed Martial Arts event for fight fans in the Central Oregon region. With five amateur fights and three professional fights there was a good mix of weight classes and fighters on the card providing a great night of MMA action.

The Main event bout put Team Quest fighter Tyson Nam and Sidekick fighter Chuck Jordan from Nampa Idaho face to face in a bantamweight bout that started out quick and ended just the same. Jordan came out in a traditional Muay Thai style stance chopping at the legs of Nam, but Nam used some quick counter punching and offense of his own to force Jordan to shoot for the takedown. Nam sprawled quickly and controlled Jordan on the ground, firing some heavy punches and finally putting Jordan out for the win by TKO in 52 seconds of the very first round!

Dynamic Full Contact Club fighter Tyler Moug got the fastest win of the night by sinking a 32 second armbar over Ty Sharp from Redneck Milita. Shaun Nance, fighting out of Oregon Combat Sports, made quick work of his opponent Nick Stanford by use of an armbar submission at 1:09 of Rd 1. Nance announced exclusively to NWFS in his post-fight interview that he is going pro after this fight.

Pro fighter Kip Ramos from Sidekicks fight team came out swinging on Team Quest fighter Brandon Pitts. These lightweights have bad intentions at the end of their fists and it was Ramos who kept landing uppercuts and hooks that stunned Pitts. Ramos eventually got the better of Pitts via Rear Naked Choke, sinking the win at 3:02 of the first round.

Team Quest fighter Tommy Grajo made his debut at 170lbs against hometown fighter Joel Toledo for the Redneck Militia. Toledo and Grajo came out trading a bit and the fight went to the ground, where Toledo attempted to work his ground game which he is known for. But Grajo put a stop to that quickly with some heavy ground and pound, landing some huge punches that made the ref step in to stop the fight at 1:08 of the first round. Grajo also announced his pro debut to NWFS in his post fight interview. Seems we are in for some great new pro fighters in the NW circuit!

Spaniard's TKO of the night goes to Redneck Militia fighter Levi Roan and his destruction of tough Team Quest fighter Nathan Allen. The fighters exchanged punches trying to feel each other out, and it was Roan that got the better of the fight and got the finish by TKO at 1:44 in round 1. Roan is still undefeated and looking to stay that way as he moves up the amateur ranks and looks towards a possible title shot in his 185 lb weight class.

'

In what started out to be a one sided affair, James Jones from the Fight Factory came out on fire, landing punches in bunches on Redneck Militia fighter Justin Viecscas. Viecscas ate punches for the entire first round and looked to be almost finished more than once, yet he didn't give up showing some major heart. Viecscas actually started reversing Jones in the second round, getting the better positioning, and then he landed a Kimura and sunk the submission forcing Jones to tap at 57 seconds of the second round. This was the comeback of the night and earned Viescas his first victory of his MMA career in his debut fight.

And last but not least, Oregon Combat Sports fighter Nick Shoesmith had a slugfest with opponent Steve Varlay from Team Quest. Both fighters were striking back and forth, landing jabs and hooks galore. But it was Shoesmith who had the edge in the stand up and was working the ground game to his advantage. He eventually got the win by TKO at 2:26 in the second round.
