Spirit
Mountain Casino and Square Ring Inc, the fight promotions
company of Boxing Superstar Roy Jones, Jr., presented their
first boxing fight night together on March 6th entitled
"Border War".

Featuring a number of tantalizing
matchups between pro boxers from Oregon state and
Washington state, the show was a quick sell-out and the
fight fans showed a high level of enthusiasm all night
long for their favorite fighters. In the main event, Steve
Forbes (former IBF Super Featherweight Champ, also member
of Season 2 of The Contender), knocked down Vancouver,
WA's Jason Davis in the 2nd round with a combo of punches,
forcing the referee to step in and call an end to the
fight.
Fight
of the night honors belonged to the slugfest between Roger
Cantrell out of Seattle, and Portland's Robert Brue. All 3
judges gave the 6 round bout to Cantrell but it was the
fans who were the winner with this great fight.
Spirit
Mountain is looking to bring more than just boxing to
fight fans with the announcement of the inaugural MMA
event at the Casino April 4th: Sportfight 25. Matt
"The Law" Lindland, co-founder of the
Northwest's premier Pro MMA event, was brought into the
ring to pitch the show which previously was held in the
Rose Garden. It should be a great one with 11 total bouts
including the Sportfight Heavyweight and Middleweight
Championships. For more info, visit Sportfight.tv.

Main Event - IBA Junior Middleweight Championship (12 rounds)
Steve
Forbes defeats Jason Davis by KO @ 2:45 Rd 2
NW
Fightscene: How did The Contender affect your career?
Steve Forbes: I think it boosted my career and gave me notoriety because
I made it far on the show.
NWFS: It was evident that you were not the crowd favorite, how did that energy affect your confidence? Vancouver has their first professional boxer and is excited to come out in support of him (Jason Davis).
Steve: Yeah, it was cool to have the crowd on both sides.
NWFS: Name association, Mrs. Linda Harris?
Steve: Um Linda Harris, I can't remember.
NWFS: She was your 6th grade teacher
Steve: Ha-Ha (He laughs and grabs his face with
embarrassment).
NWFS: You've been around boxing and in the ring since age 10,
starting at Matt Dishman Community Center in Portland, about 22
years. How much longer and what's after boxing?
Steve: I am 33 now and I will probably go to about 35. I just plan to stay in shape and keep my weight down. I will just have to see how it goes.
NFWS: Did you think the fight would go any longer than the first round.
Steve: Not really. Jason is good, but I knew that my experience was an advantage over his.
NFWS: How would you rate this fight in highlights of your professional career?
Steve: I would probably rate it number 2 behind a crowd of 30,000 when I fought Oscar De
La Hoya. It was a dream of mine to fight in my home state. Tonight felt really good.
