Interview by Jason Lusk, Photos by NW Fightscene

Undefeated Sarah D'Alelio (3-0), fighting out of Olympia, will be on the September 11th X-1 fight event "Heroes" in Honolulu going up against Raquel Pa'aluhi (2-0) in a 135 lb contest. NWFS Correspondent, Jason Lusk, had a chance to interview Sarah before the bout...

NW Fightscene: So you are headed to Hawaii?

Sarah D'Alelio: Yes this will be one of Hawaii's biggest MMA cards ever.

NWFS: What do you know about your opponent?
D'Alelio: Not much, I usually stalk all my opponents on the internet before my fights. She will be the home town girl for sure! She is 2-0, 19 or 20. She wrestled in high school. I may have read something about her dad winning the first ever MMA tournament in Hawaii.

NWFS: Have you ever been there before?
D'Alelio: Yes, but never to fight, this will be my 4th time. Once in grade school and 2 times in high school. I love it there. Its about a 6 hour flight, a little longer depending on the weather.

NWFS: How did this fight come about?
D'Alelio: Slade Bittler contacted me and asked me if I wanted to fight. I said of course, yes. Then he set it up. It was easy. It's has been a bumpy road to this fight. I had several fights scheduled all over the country before this one. Julie Kedzie took the easy road and took a spot on some reality show instead of fighting me on the Greg Jackson card. I really wanted to fight her. I wanted to fight a ranked fighter to show the world that I am worthy of being in the sport. I got to see a girl that I beat fight on the Strikeforce card as an alternate. She is also headed to that reality show... I am so happy that Meisha [Tate] won that tournament. She has been a friend and training partner to me for a while now. We have both come along way in this sport. She will be in my corner for my fight.

A lot of these girls are getting the spotlight on them with out doing much. I was not even contacted about this show. From what I can see from the promo photo, it looks like they want to build a Barbie Doll fighter and showcase her. I am sure there are some tough girls in the house but that not what fighting is about. We all saw happened with Gina Carano. For the record I would like to fight the winner of the show and skip all the other B.S.! We will see where these girls are in year or so.

NWFS: What's next for you after this fight in Hawaii?
D'Alelio: I am just going to keep on fighting. I want Cagesport to throw a belt out for the women's division. I would like to fight for Strikeforce as soon a they will have me. I would love for Bellator to have a women's 135 lb tournament. I really like how they are doing things over there.

NWFS: Who'd you like to thank?
D'Alelio: I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me. Joel Pettit and Robert Owens at BJJ Olympia (BJJOLYMPIA.com). Olympia Cross Fit. All my training partners and everyone who helped me pay for my medicals this time round. Eric Dahlberg, he is an AWESOME coach, teacher, & psychiatrist. Slade Bittler with Tussle Fight Gear, he took care of everything for this fight (tusslefightgear.com). And of course Jason Lusk. And anyone who I may have forgot.

NW Fightscene thanks Sarah for her time in this interview. She will be fighting on September 11th, 2010 in Honolulu against Raquel Pa'aluhi in X-1 Heroes.
