NW Fightscene Interview with Sarah D'Alelio - March 2010

Interview by Jason Lusk, Photos by NW Fightscene

On March 19th from the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska, Sarah D'Alelio spoiled Colleen Schneider's highly touted MMA debut in Alaska's first ever Pro Female Main Event at Arctic Combat 2. NW Fightscene correspondent, Jason Lusk, spoke with Sarah recently about the win and more
...

NW Fightscene: What are your thoughts now looking back at your win in Alaska?

Sarah D'Alelio: There was a lot of publicity on Colleen for this event. I just sat back and listened. I prefer to let my fighting do to the talking. Physically she looked great, but she wasn't prepared mentally for an opponent who was truly unafraid of being hit. I mean I won't just let someone wail away on me. Getting punched and kicked is a part of what we do, and you have to be prepared to take punches and you also have to be prepared for that one freak who is just unfazed when you hit them. I don't think she was prepared for that at all. Mental preparation is so huge, and I think that's the most important thing for her to consider at this point in her career.

NWFS: Anyone you'd like to call out?
D'Alelio: I don't want to call anyone out. I just want to fight someone with some guts, ya know? I want to be able to put on a good show. Maybe I can establish a fan base who appreciates solid technique and girls who just say F' it, I'm here for a war, not to look like a Barbie Doll and prance around in a damn skirt!

NWFS: How was Alaska?
D'Alelio: Oh my goodness, I fell in love with Alaska. Yeah, it was cold but the sun was shining so bright that it would warm you instantly. The sky was absolutely clear and brilliant day and night and the landscape was amazing. I even got to see the northern lights! So many beautiful mountains to look at and the air was amazingly crisp. The people were just awesome, and so nice! Everywhere I went everyone was warm and friendly. The guys at the place that did my hair, Kreative Kuts, were absolutely hilarious and I can't wait to hang out with them again. I would love to come back and fight again.

NWFS: Anyone you want to thank?
D'Alelio: First Eric Dahlberg for taking time out of his life and away from his gym (Demon Jiu-Jitsu) to come and corner for me. He's an amazing coach, person and human being. It gave me so much confidence to know that I was important enough for him to take the time out for me. I'd also like to thank everyone at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Olympia for training me up. Joel Pettit always gives me so much personal attention, and Robert Owens is always on my case pushing me to be better. And of course Matt Ferris, that guy is always helping my striking get better.

NWFS: Any fights lined up at this time?
D'Alelio: I don't have anything lined up at the moment, I'm taking a week away from the gym to hang out, eat, and drink. I have to get some work in on some pretty fundamental things and then we'll start looking for another fight. It won't be too long though. I'm pretty determined to build a little momentum.

NW Fightscene thanks Sarah for her time in this interview.
