Sportfight XXX "Limitless" - October 22nd, 2011

Mount Hood Community College - Portland, Oregon

Review & Post Interviews by Spaniard, Photos by Mike Renouard

Sportfight returned to their roots at Mount Hood Community College - holding Sportfight XXX "Limitless" on October 22nd - their first show at the college since 2005. Olympic Silver medalist & former UFC fighter Matt Lindland led the way as he brought in new Sportfight partners, Takedown Entertaiment, to shoot a pilot show which will be packaged and sold for future broadcast to get these NW fighters some mainstream recognition. UFC fighters Rick Story, Mike Pierce, and Chael Sonnen were all in the house, with Sonnen commentating for the Takedown show with Ron "The Yacman" Yacovetti and former UFC fighter Bill Mahood.

The co-main event was moved up to the main event when former UFC fighter Paul Kelly had trouble with his visa and was denied entry from England for his fight with Ryan Healy. So the main event became UFC veteran Mario Miranda & ex-IFL fighter Aaron Stark clashing in a 205 lb matchup. Both Miranda and Stark were coming off summer victories and were looking to keep their streaks intact. The first round had Stark pushing Miranda into Miranda's corner but both fighters tied up and the ref restarted after limited action. Stark repeated the process and again the pair tied up with the ref restarting. The round ended with the pair clinched up in Stark's corner and Miranda working some knees to the leg. In the 2nd round, Miranda turned up the heat, getting Stark to the canvas where he started working in hard punches that Stark eventually succumbed to via ref stoppage at 2:09. Miranda gets his 2nd win in a row since his release from the UFC following his loss to Aaron Simpson. Miranda next fights Vyacheslav Vasilevsky at M-1 Challenge XVIII in Russia on Nov 19th.

The co-main event pitted Team Quest fighter Ryan "Diamond" Healy against Bellator vet Andrew Chapelle fighting under the Ring Demon banner and who took the bout on four days notice after Paul Kelly dropped out. The first round was Chappelle getting Healy down and working some gnp on the mat for most of it until Healy escaped to dish out a bit of his own. In the second, it became a standup war with Healy picking apart and running down Chappelle, and a winded Chappelle occasionally landing with a hard accurate counter. The third round progessed in a similar manner with both fighters showing signs of punishment on their faces in this fight of the night. In the end it was up to the three ringside judges to decide and the fight went to Healy in a split decision 29-28, 28-29, 30-27.

Bad Company MMA fighter Jeff Hatton completely destroyed Team Quest's Damon Wood, beating him via rear naked choke for the second time in two fights between the pair (with the first happening back in August). Hatton went straight for the takedown, opened a big cut on Wood s head in the process, and then sunk the Rear Naked Choke that Wood passed out to at 49 seconds of the very first round.

Team Quest Tualatin fighter Blaine Macintosh came out on fire against Dustin Praxedes from Roughhouse MMA. Both fighters went at it so fast they ended up out of the ring at one point. When the fight was restarted, Macintosh took over and finished the fight by tap to Triangle in a super slick submission on Macintosh s part and which took only 1:24 of the first round.

Crowd favorite Tommy "SuperBad" Leisman out of Team Quest Tualatin got the fans on their feet in his destruction of Carlos Rodriguez. He sunk a super tight Armbar on Rodriguez that got the Spokane BJJ fighter to verbally submit at 1:33 in the first and everyone in the building went nuts!

Kip Ramos, fighting out of Sidekicks Gym in Nampa Idaho, came into Sportfight 30 undefeated and left that way after just 46 seconds when he got Chris "The Hawaiaan Punch" Folsom in the corner and unloaded a barrage of strikes that forced the ref to jump in and stop their 205 lb contest.

Knockout of the Night went to Team Integrity heavyweight Darren O Donnell and his huge 9 second KO of Team Quest Gresham's Jimmy Haman. O Donnell isn t having any setbacks from switching teams and remains undefeated as an amatuer. A big man with a big right hand is a dangerous combination and future opponents should study this guy.

Another huge KO came from another amateur - Will Hill out of Team Quest Gresham - who landed some huge punches on grounded Dynamic Full Contact Club fighter Mike Frear, ending Frear's night in 58 seconds.

Cody Isaacson out of Team Quest took on fellow amatuer fighter Zane Behrend in the night's opening bout at 160 lbs. The first round was relatively close but in the 2nd, Isaacson wasted little time in pounding on Behrend on the ground and sinking in the Rear Naked Choke at 36 seconds into the round.

In other action, DFCC's Tyler Moug took out Team React's Derek Jones with strikes on the ground to force a ref stoppage at 2:20 of the first round of their pro 185 lb fight. Also at 185 lbs but between a pair of amtauters, Team Quest's Jose Rodriguez defeated Full Force MMA's Jessee Apodaca by TKO @ 2:45 of the first.
