Sportfight XXII "Re-Awakening" - April 18th, 2008

Rose Garden Arena - Portland, Oregon

Sportfight 22 was another great production from the Sportfight crew, headed up by Matt and Angie Lindland. Broadcast live around the nation by HDnet Fights, the show featured 2 preliminary amateur bouts not shown on TV, and then proceeded with 9 professional bouts.

In the co-main event, Sikjitsu's Lyle "Fancy Pants" Beerbohm imposed his will on the ground for three rounds against the always dangerous Ed "Bam Bam" Nuno and took home the Unanimous Decision and the interim Lightweight belt. Initially the bout was for Sportfight Lightweight Championship but as Nuno didnt make weight, the pair fought at catch weight of 160lbs, thus making it an interim championship.

The main event was a Featherweight Title defense for Enoch "The Animal" Wilson fighting out of Team Quest against Mike Joy under Marcelo Alonso BJJ and Brian Johnson Kickboxing. Wilson weathered Joy's onslaught for the first 3 rounds in a very entertaining battle, before catching him with a wicked knee in the 4th round that KO'd Joy and left Wilson the champ. After the bout, Enoch talked about his victory...

"The fight went awesome, it was just like I expected. Joy is a really tough cat. He's a very good wrestler, good jiu-jitsu, good standup. He always shows up in shape. The kid's a madman but they don't call me "The Animal" for nothing. I come in prepared for every facet, top to bottom, in and out. I just knew if I worked my cardio really hard and kept throwing elbows and punches in his face, with the kicks and knees followed up, that it was just a matter of time before I made him shoot sloppy and catch him with a knee or uppercut, and Ta Daaa!"

Sportfight 23 is scheduled for Friday, June 20th at the Rose Garden. More info and photos from Sportfight photgrapher Greg Peterson can be found at sportfight.tv.
