Rise Fighting Championship "Bragging Rights" - Fight Card & Preview

Press Release from Island Promotions

Eugene, Oregon (July 28, 2007): Rise Fighting Championship (RFC) will bring hot Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action to northwest fans this summer.

MMA brings the best of all martial arts into the same ring and is rapidly gaining popularity as an international sport. Combining striking from boxing and Muay Thai disciplines, takedowns from Judo and Russian Sambo, and ground techniques from wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitusu, MMA is changing the world of martial arts and ring sport.

"Bragging Rights," the event theme, will feature national-level fights between Harris Sarmiento and Enoch Wilson and Andy Lukesh and Dave Moreno. During the last RFC event, Sarmeinto and Wilson faced off in the ring, with Sarmiento challenging Wilson to fight him on the feet. Wilson said he would oblige at Bragging Rights.

Fighting out of 808 Fight Factory (Honolulu, HI) Harris Sarmiento carries a 20-15-0 (win-loss-draw) professional record and likes to end his fight by knockout. Known for his outstanding standup game and solid takedown defense, Sarmiento has faced elite competition throughout his accomplished career, including wars against Nick Diaz (Ultimate Fighting Championships -- UFC -- and Pride veteran), Rob McCullough (current World Extreme Cagefighting -- WEC -- lightweight champion), K. J. Noons (Elite XC veteran) and Roger Huerta (recently showcased on the cover of Sports Illustrated and current UFC fighter). Highlights of his career include a tournament win in the eight-fighter tourney at Rumble on the Rock (Honolulu, HI 2005). He currently trains with Ronald Juhn and Falaniko Vitale (UFC veterans).

Facing off against Sarmiento will be Northwest's own, Enoch Wilson. Wilson, fighting out of Oregon Jiu-jitsu (Tigard, OR), brings a professional record of 8-4-1 into his fight with Sarmiento. His strength is on the ground, but he is a fighter that is more than willing to fight on his feet. Known for his fast-paced action in both the cage and ring, Wilson has fought John Gunderson (Bend, OR), Ian Loveland (Gresham, OR), and Urijah Faber (current WEC featherweight champion). Wilson has been featured on MSNBC's Warrior Nation.

With a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and currently fighting out of Penn MMA (Hilo, HI), Dave Moreno (4-2) is known for his conditioning and ending fights with submissions on the ground. Although he just recently turned pro, Moreno has fought against elite competition. Currently working on his standup skills with Rudy Valentino, Moreno looks to bring a rounded game to his match against Andy Lukesh.

Andy Lukesh (2-1), also recently turning pro, brings a solid ground game into his match with Moreno. Training out of Impact Jiu-jitsu (Beaverton, OR), Lukesh comes from a wrestling background and holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. In his last professional fight at RFC, Lukesh dominated Moreno's teammate, Donald Gonzales, and looks to do the same against Moreno.

Rise Fighting Championship is quickly establishing itself as the premier MMA event in the Pacific Northwest. All fights are held in a ring, and fights are competitive and exciting. RFC focuses on exciting matches, showcasing fighters, and making fighters accessible to fight fans.

Fighter weigh ins will take place at 12 pm on the 27th of July at the Lane County Fairgrounds and will be open to the media. Media access to fighters will follow after the weigh ins.
