On March 10th, over 140 competitors from across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and BC pitted their Jiu-jitsu and submission grappling skills against each other in front of a packed house in the Sumner Middle School gym, near Puyallup, Washington.
The
spectators were able to witness some of the best combat athletes
of the NW compete in the traditional Gi, as well as in the
increasingly popular No-Gi style.
The fight schools represented included Marcelo Alonso BJJ, Ivan Salaverry MMA, AMC Kickboxing, Foster BJJ, Yakima MMA, Demon JJ, Gracie Barra Seattle, Gracie Barra Lake Stevens, Victory Athletics, Team Quest, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Spokane, Olympia BJJ, East West MA, Full Circle Fight Club, University of Idaho/Moscow BJJ, and Spike 22.
Cash
prizes provided by the cool folks at Vicious Fightgear were given to the
fastest submission in both Gi and No-Gi. Medals were awarded to each of
the division winners and trophies were handed out the winners of the
Absolute Divisions.
All
of the winners also received the latest copy of NW FightScene Magazine.
Some
of the notables in attendance included MMA legends Matt Hume and Ivan
Salaverry who both had students competing, IFL Fighters Brad Blackburn
and Reese Andy, BodogFight Star Tara LaRosa, and Landon "The
Show" Showalter. A special plaque was awarded to Marcelo Alonso who
has played an extremely influential role in the development and growth of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in the Pacific Northwest.
"The
Revolution" is put on and run by Liberty Events and Promotions,
and
Jeff, Gina, and their crew did an amazing job of keeping the event
moving along throughout the day, especially considering the large number
of competitors. They also had a full concession stand to keep the fans
in food and drink, plus there was a raffle for tickets to the IFL's June
2nd show at the Everett Events Center, Clothing from Vicious Fightgear, and
more.
The
next Revolution will be taking place on July 14th at what is sure to be
a bigger venue. For more info on "The Revolution" and Liberty
