Oregon's Glena Avila Set to Defend Women's Championship

at 50th Anniversary Showcase on March 6th

Press Release from The Full Contact Fighting Federation

Portland, OR - On Saturday, March 6th the Full Contact Fighting Federation will host its 50th event anniversary show, with its biggest lineup of fights ever. There are five Championship bouts slated for the event including a Heavyweight Championship that pits long-time trainer Jason Pittman against former FCFF Champion Shawn Mirjavadi. Glena "Heartless" Avila is the current and only Women's Champion in the Full Contact Fighting Federation's history. Women in MMA are a rarity, but the Rumble @ The Roseland has been blessed to attract top talent, including the debut of Randy "The Natural" Couture's wife Kim in 2008. Special guests will fill the Roseland Theater to celebrate the FCFF's milestone event.

Avila first came onto the FCFF's radar during her first fight against Hadley Griffith. Avila, weighting in at 130 pounds brought down Griffith with ease. The fight was over via TKO in one minute and 17 seconds of round number one due to strikes. Avila, trained under Stormy Back in the Dalles and at Rise Above mma in Portland is traveling all over the State to hone her MMA skills. In Avila's second fight she faced local veteran to combat sports, Janna Piper. Piper, a former boxer moved over to mma after her brother, Greg Piper, (an accomplished fighter) passed away. Avila and Piper went the distance -exchanging countless blows- to finish with a split decision by the judges. Avila finished on top and won the belt on December 12th 2009 at Rumble @ The Roseland 48. On Saturday, March 6th Maygen Sato of Idaho fly's into Portland with one mission: to take the belt from Avila and bring it back to Idaho.

Maygen Sato of Rigby, Idaho comes to the Rumble @ The Roseland with an undefeated record of 2-0, after only seven months in the MMA scene. Her two wins came from the "Cage Warriors" event ran by promoter Mad Marvin in Idaho Falls, Idaho. This will be her FCFF Debut. Sato has always been a fan of MMA and one night after watching the fights she decided she was "in" and "found a gym and started training," she said. In Sato's last fight she took on Whitney Pace and won by a verbal submission in round number two. Her desire to compete was present from the first time she set foot into the gym - four months later she was competing. She currently balances a full time job with training six days a week. "I like trying new things and pushing myself to be better... It keeps life interesting," she said. Sato hopes MMA will become more mainstream and that it will be an Olympic event soon. For now, Sato is focusing on the fight "right in front" of her, because "anything can happen."

Win or loose, Avila and Sato will continue in MMA. Avila is scheduled to compete in the 115-pound "TuffNuff" tournament in Vegas starting on March 26th. She also has prospects of fighting in the Capital City Cage show in Salem. "I rely heavily on my coach's opinion and I feel confident that he will let me know when he feels I'm ready to go pro," said Avila.

Also on the Rumble @ The Roseland 50 fight card is rising star John Alden from TSN in Portland. Alden will be making his first Title defense to keep his Featherweight Championship belt against Tyler Baley of Armstrong MA in Battle Ground. Kevin Fox of Touch M Up MMA in Vancouver will be vying for the 205-pound Championship Belt; and a record, six women are on the fight card. The co-owner of the FCFF, Chael Sonnen is coming off a noteworthy win from the UFC 109 event. Sonnen is a middleweight UFC fighter that just won via a unanimous decision victory against Nate Marquardt on February 6th in Las Vegas, on the same fight card as Randy "The Natural" Couture.

The Rumble @ The Roseland is known as the "Golden Gloves" of MMA and has been featured on Inside MMA, a nationally broadcasted television program. The FCFF is Oregon's first and most successful cage fighting organization. The diversity of age, background, and talent is a key ingredient to the success of the event.
