The Civic Center played host to Pure
Combat's "Bring the Pain" show as hometown hero, Steve Heath, took on North
Highland's Jaime "El Cucui" Jara fighting out of Team
Carnage in the main event. Heath, representing Cesar
Gracie's camp, came out looking for takedowns from the clinch
throughout the fight and was able to get Jara to the ground consistently, yet
Jara's ground game kept Heath on the defensive. Round two saw Heath giving up his back to Jara and in a scramble Heath got out the back door to get top position, yet was unable to use it due to
Jara's tight guard work. Rd three saw Jara able to score some punishing points as he stuffs a single attempt and scores multiple unanswered lefts as Heath stayed turtle looking for the single leg. As the two fighters made it back to
their feet, Jara landed a one-two right down the pipe that dropped
Heath and Jara smelled the blood, quickly pounced on Heath,
and hammered away until referee Josh Rosenthal stepped in and called the fight at 4:39 of
Round 3. Jaime "El Cucui" Jara is Pure Combat's new Middleweight Champion.
Northwest fighter Lance Wipf currently fighting out of Las Vegas,
earned an extra $1000 dollars for fight of the night as he landed a huge superman punch that sent former UFC fighter Kelly Dullanty to the canvas in 9 seconds! Dullanty tried to get back to his feet numerous times, yet had no legs and at one point was bouncing around like the fight was about to start as people were trying to say
"it's over man, its over." Wipf improved his win streak to 5 in a row and was all smiles as he now has some serious highlight footage.
In a very controversial split decision, Pit Fight Team fighter Cruz Gomez found out the hard way why his corner man Chuck Liddell always says
"never leave it up to the judges." Gomez lost the split decision to crowd favorite Isaac De Jesus as two judges scored the fight 29-28,
one for Gomez, and one for De Jesus. It was judge Dan Stell
who scored the bout 30-27 for De Jesus which had everyone going crazy including UFC fighter the
"Iceman" Chuck Liddell. De Jesus went for several guillotine attempts throughout the fight, and landed a kick in the third, yet this was about all he did since
Gomez had him on the defensive the whole time mounting him, taking his back and controlling the fight. This fight needs a rematch and a couple more rounds to really get a winner out this fiasco.
Joe Vea defeated Arby Magtibay by TKO in 47 seconds of round two after submitting Arby at the end of round one, yet the tap came as the round
ended. Vea came out in round two, climbed
Arby's back, turned him over, flattened him out and pounded away until the ref stopped the fight.
John Orsua defeated Derek Easterling in round three after mounting him, taking his back and pounded until the referee stopped the fight at 1:15. This was one of the best fights of the night with a lot of back and forth and both trading strikes.
Mike Brown pounded fighter Rolando Torres from inside his guard landing huge lefts until the ref stepped in and called the fight at 2:37 of round one.
Travis Bennett defeated Yonas Gegreegziahbheo in the 145lb division by Rear-Naked Choke in round one at 2:48.
Richard Chavez came out attacking fighter Eric Jacob with submission attempt after submission attempt finally sinking a Rear-Naked Choke at 2:07 of round one in the lightweight division.
And last but not least heavyweight fighter Brandon Cash defeated Anthony Von Rekowski with a side choke, or Arm-Triangle at 1:55 of round two in the first fight of the night.
The
fights will be rebroadcast on HDNet so look for it.
