Patrick
Ortiz and Ringside Ticket Inc, in conjunction with NW
promoters Aric Wiseman and Charles Pearson, returned to Yakama Legends
Casino for an outdoor MMA event on June 5th, bringing with
them UFC star Forrest Griffin as well as 11 exciting
matchups for the large crowd on hand.

With
the weather cooperating, the bouts started out in the sunshine beginning
with the amateurs and finishing up in the twilight with
the main event that featured a pro female bout for the
UMMA 120 lb belt. Champ "Slick" Sally Krumdiack,
ranked 6th in the world and fighting out of Charlie's
Combat Club in Everett, successfully defended her
title against Japanese fighter, Hiroko Kitamura, by coming
out strong in the initial standup exchange, working the
clinch against the cage, getting the takedown, and then maneuvering
Kitamura into the corner on the ground where Krumdiack
landed numerous unanswered elbows that forced Kitamura's
corner to throw in the towel.
 
The
Co-feature was a 170 lb matchup between talented
Ben Fodor out of Alderwood MMA & Fernando Corona from
the White Swan Warriors. The bout started with Corona
charging hard and forcing Fodor against the cage looking
for the takedown, but Fodor showed patience, working away
from the cage with a big knee and then a hard takedown
that wound up injuring Corona and forcing ref Anthony
Hamlett to immediately stop the fight. Fodor moved to 14-1
as an amateur with the win.
  
Two
additional pro fights were on the evening's card. In the
first at 145 lbs, Strikeforce veteran Alex Zuniga took a
unanimous decision victory in his fight against White
Swan's John Martinez with superior wrestling and punishing
Martinez with some serious ground and pound for most of
their fifteen minute bout. Up next was a pro heavyweight
fight with Demon Jiu-jitsu's Trevor Smith controlling on
the ground and ending the contest with a 1st rd submission
of Jesus Rodriguez.
 
The
next MMA event at the casino will be July 31st with the
special guest being UFC Heavyweight Star, Cain Velasquez.
