After a sucessful first event at the Coeur d'Alene Casino back in May, King of the Cage made a triumphant return to Worley, Idaho on Aug 23rd with "Breaking Point" which featured an evening of 7 professional and 5 amateur MMA fights to a packed house inside the casino's Event Center. And like their first visit earlier this year, KOTC put together a card stacked with NW talent that produced another memorable evening of finishes and solid combat action.
In the Main Event, CDA's own Trevor Prangley got his 40th birthday celebration started a day early with a TKO victory over a game but ultimately outmatched Mike Cook, fighting out of Central California. The bout started and stayed mostly on the feet, and it was Prangley's striking that won the day for him as the doctor stepped in between rounds and wouldn't allow Cook to continue due to damage sustained. Upcoming for Prangley is a scheduled bout with Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou on October 6th at Super Fight League 5 in India.
The Co-Main Event had Spokane BJJ's Lyle "Fancy Pants" Beerbohm come in on a 3 fight win streak, with his most recent victory a dominating 3 round decision over UFC vet Marcus Aurelio in June at ShoFight 20. Across the cage from him was WEC & Tachi Fights veteran, Kenny "The Dragon" Ento, who came in with a 4 inch height advantage and looked for a career-boosting victory over a big name opponent like Fancy Pants. When the fight got underway, it looked as if Ento might get that win as he locked on a tight triangle choke. But Beerbohm had a hand in and never was close to succumbing, instead escaping and getting position to eventually get Ahto to tap to a Rear Naked Choke in the first round.
One of the best fights of the night was also one of the most anticipated as two of the top 145lbrs in the NW were matched up in Lee "The American Bulldog" Morrison & Drew "The Eternal Fire" Brokenshire.
This was a technical fight in which both fighters displayed their skills on the ground and after three hard fought rounds the judges scored it 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28 for Morrison.
In other pro action, Bantamweight Zach Lari lost the first round but came back hard in the 2nd, finishing Brandon Stedman via Guillotine Choke at 40 seconds in. At 145 lbs, Jordan Cook submitted Brett Boska by RNC at 3:37 of Rd 1, a bout in which Boska had his arm broke but showed a lot of grit in fighting on. In a middleweight fight, "Iron" Will Noland got George Stork to tap to an armbar at just 1:01 into the first. In the night's first pro bout, Spokane BJJ's Josh Rettinghouse subbed Elliot Gilbert via armbar at 1:34 of Rd 1.
King of the Cage will return to the Coeur d'Alene Casino sometime this fall, possibly November. Be sure to visit their website for more info on this show plus other fight events the promotion has upcoming around the country at www.kingofthecage.com.
