NWFS:
Jeremy, how are things going with your new gym?
(Editor's
note: Elite Performance gym in Salt Lake City)
Jeremy
Horn: Really good. Things are going real well.
NWFS:
Any promising fighters coming out of there that we should
be keeping our eyes open for?
Horn:
Yeah, there are definitely a lot of guys there that have some potential.
But a lot of them are still pretty new. You know, a year, 8 months,
that type of thing, so you're not going to hear about them for a while, but definitely
in the future there's going to be a lot of talent coming up.
NWFS:
You're doing a Superfight with The IFL. Are you contracted for one bout,
or what's the scenario
with them?
Horn:
Right now we're just doing one fight. They're going to be putting a team together
for
me starting after the first of the year. That's still kind of in the works
just yet as to
when. So I'm going to be working as a coach after this,
and then we'll go from there.
NWFS:
I'll be excited to see that. What city will your team be based out of?
Horn:
I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah.
NWFS:
Wow. So these IFL guys are really shaking things up by having
legendary guys such as yourself to coach from their hometowns.
Horn:
Absolutely. Like I've said it a hundred times, I really like the direction
they're going with this sport. I think they're really doing good things
and I'm just really glad to be a part of it.
NWFS:
Have you done anything different in preparing
to battle Matt Lindland at all?
Horn:
Not really. Just trying to put a little more focus into a specific game plan.
I always try
to be in good shape and I always try to give equal attention
to standing, boxing, grappling,
wrestling, submission, and all that stuff.
In the past I've always neglected having
a specific game plan so that's
something more than anything, I suppose,
that I've been worked on now.
NWFS:
Is that going to be a new habit for you, or was that specific for Matt?
Horn:
Well, I'm going to be doing more of that in the future anyway, but specifically Matt.
He's got a real nasty style. He's good at holding people down. He's good at
frustrating people and making them make mistakes. I've just been
working
on preparing myself for that, and working to stay busy doing my thing and let that get
into my head and not start freaking out about it.
NWFS:
Do you expect to fight for other promotions
before you're coaching for The
IFL?
Horn:
I believe I'm going to be fighting in the Pride show October 21st in Vegas.
(Editor's
note: This obviously may have changed if Horn has truly retired!)
NWFS:
Do you have an opponent yet?
Horn:
Nope, no word yet on who.
NWFS:
So if you were to send a message to young fighters that are aspiring
to make
it into the big game, what advice would you
give
that they should really think about?
Horn:
It's very important to get a good coach. Someone that knows what they're doing.
More importantly, someone that cares about the growth of their fighters.
You know, a lot of guys have fighters but just throw them to the wolves and get them
pounded and beat down and ruin their confidence early. I think having a good coach
and a good manager at a early level, which a lot of
time is the same thing, is real important.
NWFS:
Any last words?
Horn:
I'm always very appreciative of the fans. Without them we wouldn't be here,
so I really appreciate their support.
NWFS:
Thanks so much Jeremy.
Horn:
Thank you.
