On
Oct 30th at the Red Lion in Vancouver, WA, Gladiator MMA owner Austin Springer put together a stacked card
of fighters from tough teams around the Pacific NW for the
inaugural Halloween Brawl. 12 amateur fights took place,
including 3 title fights & 1 Superfight, and it being
a Halloween show of course there was a costume contest,
plus yours truly announcing the "Fighter of the
Night", sponsored by Close Combat Wear & Fight Gear.
The main event saw KO King, Eric Ramsey from Dark Force
Underground, earn his second win over NW Warrior Chris Barber this
year, both ending by brutal KO. Barber, who took the fight last minute, was taken down and ate a huge Hammerfist and was knocked out cold in 55 seconds of the
1st round. The win earned Ramsey another Title in the 170lb
division & he goes to 9-0 with every win coming by KO!
The co-main event saw striker Doug
"Crazy Legs" Kay fail to answer the bell for the 2nd Rd after Arsenal Combat fighter John
"Spiderman" Heilman turned out a dominate Rd 1 for the Bantamweight Championship. Heilman was eating knees in the clinch as Kay used his striking to rack up points,
but once Heilman popped out of a Guillotine attempt thrown on by
Kay, the fight changed hands. Heilman aggressively stayed on top and
landed numerous punches as Kay attempted to scramble and get back to his feet. The round ended with Heilman unloading on Kay,
with Kay needing help to his corner & complaining of having
trouble seeing out of his right eye. His corner was forced
to throw in the towel as Kay was seriously hurt and word is
he will now need unfortunately surgery. Our best wishes to
Kay for a speedy recovery.
Touch Em Up's Chris Perrin defeated C.A.G.E fighter Rod Jaques at 2:13 in the
2nd Rd when referee Elliott Alleman had seen enough and
called the fight, awarding Perrin the Middleweight
Championship belt. Perrin also won the Close Combat Wear & Fight Gear sponsored "Fighter of the Night" award
which I was brought in to choose and give away.
Afterwards, Perrin thanked his team and family who were
present in abundance. Perrin's sons joined the costume contest,
with of his boy's making it all the way to the finals
& beating out his older brother!
KO of the night would definitely have to go to Touch Em Up's Jay Shaffer who KO'd a tough Tommy Grajo fighting out of Team Quest. Shaffer had rocks in his left hand
and it only took a couple to drop Grajo and put him to sleep
in just 28 secs. For the effort, Shaffer earned the 185lb Super
Fight Belt and has plans on possibly turning pro soon.
Another great
KO came from Bennett Seybold out of Gladiator MMA who has earned two KO's in the last 2 weeks, this time
knocking out Kapano Jacobs at 2:00 of Rd 1.
One of the best fights of the evening was in a 185 lb Kickboxing
contest with 503 West Coast JJ's Ryan Truitt battling it
out with Gladiator MMA's Jake Smith. This fight was
amazing with both fighters landing clean shots in their
kicks and strikes, yet neither fighter slowing down. So it
came as no surprise that the bout was ruled a majority draw by the
judges with 2 judges scoring it even and the 3rd for Truitt.
In other bouts, Arsenal Combat's Olin Howlett stopped NW Warrior BJ Garmin
at 22 seconds of the second round. Touch M' Up's Josh Ryan defeated Mike
DiPalermo by verbal submission to strikes in Rd 2.
Heavyweight Josh McPherson out of Arsenal Combat Sports
beat Josh Fernandez, also by verbal submission to strikes.
Independents Shane Jordan & Donavan Weaver won their
fights both by rear naked choke, & Gladiator MMA's
Cody Lindley TKO'd Josh Fleck in the night's first
fight.
Sponsors that made the Halloween Brawl possible were Close
Combat Wear & Fight Gear, Karmma Fight Gear, Bernie's
and Rollie's Barber Shop, Max Muscle, Lunatic Tattoo, Live To Fight, International Longshore
& Warehouse Union, Hedlok Clothing. Austin Springer's
next event will be December 18th in Vancouver. More info
