The 2nd installment of GENESIS, Matt Hume's new "Up and Comers" series, was held last Saturday inside the confines of the world famous AMC Kickboxing and Pankration Training Center in Kirkland, Washington. The fight fans were packed in and once the bouts began, they were treated to 10 Amateur MMA bouts plus

1 Boxing matchup with all of the fights providing plenty of excitement. 

The main event which gave the show its name, featured the much anticipated meeting of two undefeated heavyweights: Brent "Mankill" Knopp fighting under the AMC banner and Mike "300" Hayes with the White Buffalo Warriors. This was a bout that went the distance and the Split Decision was given to Brent Knopp to the dismay of many of Hayes' supporters. However, the bout was held under the PRIDE Amateur rules which scores differently from standard MMA rules, and it was Knopp's low leg kicks in which he was especially effective with in the third round that may have tipped the balance in his favor. At any rate, Knopp retained his PRIDE Am Heavyweight belt, and hopefully these two will rematch at a future GENESIS show. 

The fight of the night was in the 145lb weight class with Arlington Kickboxing Academy's JJ Lopez and AMC's Drew Brokenshire putting on a slugfest that brought everyone in the room to their feet. The first couple of minutes belonged to Lopez who landed numerous clean shots and dropped Brokenshire two or three times. Brokenshire would not be taken out however and came back in the middle of the round with some great kickboxing technique and it appeared it was Lopez who was in danger of being finished. But neither fighter gave in and the last minute or so of the bout, it was all heart for both sluggers until Lopez caught Brokenshire with a sweeping left hook that dropped him and Lopez was able to jump in with hammerfists and right hands to end it. This was amateur MMA at its best!!
