Chinook
Winds Casino Resort - Lincoln City, Oregon
Review, photos, and interviews by Spaniard
The FCFF's Caged at the Coast VI went down at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Oregon Nov 5th. The night was packed with action including two title bouts and a female bout that went the distance in an all-out war! The main event saw the bantamweights go at it with Vancouver's Cory Vombaur facing Rise Above MMA's Tyler Fryman. Vombaur used his wrestling to get Fryman down and then triangle his body and landed some big punches to finish the fight at 1:44 in the second round to become FCFF's new 135 lb champ. After the fight, Vombaur told NWFS in an exclusive interview that he is relinquishing the title to go pro. So looks like The FCFF will have to do this all over again with some new 35ers soon.
The co-main event for the super-heavyweight title was between current champ, Ryan Harrington out of Alive MMA, and challenger 503 West Coast Jiu-jitsu's Damion Martindale. Martindale attempted to break Harrington's reach but ate a ton of punches, and heavy ones at that, in trying to get a hold of Ryan. Harrington was able to stop the takedown attempts and the end came at 1:39 of the 2nd when Harrington stunned Martindale, landing big shots that forced the ref to stop the fight. Harrington remains champion and credits his team and coach in helping him get his win in the NWFS post-fight interview.
Spaniard's "Fight of the Night" went to the ladies as these girls scrapped in the cage and set off absolute mayhem at the Chinook Winds Casino. Team Trident's Liz Tracy, a last minute replacement for an injured Emily Corso, took on Emily Whitmire from Rise Above MMA. Tracy went after the takedown, pushing Whitmire into the cage but eating some punches along the way. Whitmire looked for submission and reversals, forcing Tracy to stay busy and at one point in the second round, they were trading big bombs to the crowd's cheers. Emily Whitmire stayed true to her "Blonde Bomber" nickname, waiting to break away from the clinch game and then go for the big knockout. This forced Tracy to go for the takedown and clinch. Tracy escaped a couple big submission attempts and in the end was awarded a Majority Decision in a fight that was both entertaining and highly competitive.
503 West Coast Jiu-Jitsu's Jason Pittman turned the tables on a tough Bobby Rudel, nabbing a 2nd round TKO win. Pittman kept his composure, spending most of the round stuck in a Rudel guillotine attempt, and then made his escape and immediately rocked Rudel and went for the finish, getting it at 1:42 of the 2nd.
Alive MMA went undefeated again, adding to their winning record, when Sean Baker showed another amazing display of ground and pound. Baker took on Team Quest's (Tualatin) Kyle Ellsworth and won a unanimous decision by getting numerous takedowns and pounding on Ellsworth for 3 rounds.
Impact Jiu-Jitsu's Brysen French sunk a beautiful Armbar at 1:08 of the first round to take out Brian Thompson.
Ryan Thomas finished Gemini Moore from mount, punching him until the ref called the fight coming to Moore's aid at 1:36 in the second.
