Sportfight 26 Post-fight Interview with Enoch "The Animal" Wilson

Interview and photos by Clinton Washington

On October 2nd, Enoch "The Animal" Wilson defended his Sportfight Pro 145 pound Title for the 4th time at Sportfight 26 by knocking out Chad Nelson in explosive fashion. The eminently quotable Wilson spoke with NW Fightscene's Clinton Washington post-fight about the bout...

NW Fightscene: Start off for our readers that don't know you by telling them about yourself and where you fight out of.
Enoch Wilson: I would like to start off by saying I'm the number one fighter in the world at 145. I'm on my way to proving it right now. My name is Enoch "Animal" Wilson from Tigard, Oregon. I fight with Team Quest and I'm just here to represent  and I've had the Sportfight Title for going on 4 years and I told everybody when I first got it, nobody's going to take it. It hasn't happened and its not going to happen, but I'm going to go into other venues and take everyone else's belts. That's how that works.

NWFS: Was there any special preparation that you did for this fight?
Wilson: (Laughs) Yeah, knocked out all my teammates several times in preparation to make sure that I was sharp. It was unintentional but... Yeah, I knew Chad was a good striker but I like the Bas Rutten defense. Instead of grappling with the striker, I like to strike with the striker. Sometimes they're cocky and they overlook yours and they go after it too hard. I kind of went after it too hard tonight. I was trying to throw power and everything. Need to finesse a little more. But I lit him up a little bit. I also wanted to work my slams. I knew he was susceptible to slams. I'm a little bit bigger than he is. And that's what set up those wicked left hands that left him unconscious baby! (Laughs)

NWFS: So what's next for you champ?
Wilson: Whatever my management crew, and coach and I decide. Anybody. Everybody. I don't want anybody who's not ranked top 15 in the world. I'm ranked 18th and I don't have any desire to fight anybody who's not in the top 15 right now because you can only be the best if you beat the best.

NWFS: All right champ. Thank you and congratulations for tonight.
Wilson: Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
