Elite Warriors Championship "May Massacre" - May 10th, 2008

As fans lined up outside the Salem Armory for the EWC's "May Massacre" event, veteran MMA fighter Gerald Strebendt quietly informed EWC promoter Pat White that he would not be fighting in the main event against Mike Pierce and he left the premises. Of course this was a huge shock to everyone involved and whatever his reasons, Strebendt's departure certainly was disappointing to the many supporters of both fighters who were anticipating a great Welterweight battle. For Mike Pierce himself, it was certainly more than a disappointment but he did at least get a chance to sharpen his commentating skills for the DVD of the show.

 And indeed, with three professional video cameras capturing every puch, kick, and sub attempt, the resulting DVD of May Massacre should be a great one as the nine fights that did happen all had plenty of excitement. In the substitute main event, Braveheart Gym's Rick Story defended his 170lb EWC belt against Team Quest's Ryan Healy. Story started each round choosing to engage with Healy standing up but before too long resorted to taking Healy to the mat where he proved dominant landing numerous elbows and hard punches as he manhandled Healy on the ground throughout the 5 rounds. At bouts end, Healy's face was battered and bloodied, and Story remained the champion.

The EWC's next show "Summer Slaughter" is on August 2nd at the Salem Armory.
