Packing 250 people into a already packed club with a full sized ring in the
middle was no easy task, but promoter Rick Little did just that and put on an
exciting show. Sporting fighters from both the local area as well as from
Landon Showalter's Arlington Kickboxing Academy, the evening had plenty of
good action and was not without a little bit of controversy.
The first fight of the night pitted local Spokane MMA fighter Lyle "Fancy
Pants" Beerbohm against Kickboxer Jason Forest in a kickboxing rules match. No
one in the crowd seemed to know that the match was going to be a kickboxing
only match, and they might not have been alone. Both fighters came out wearing
MMA style gloves. And to the surprise of his opponent, Lyle Beerbohm treated
it like it was an MMA style match too. It started with Forest throwing some
wild kicks and punches, none finding their target. Fancy Pants quickly gets a
clinch and lofts his opponent into the air with a crowd pleasing slam and
knocks out Jason Forest. Beerbohm looks a little surprised and the crowd roars
approval for the apparent victory. It is not until Forest can be helped to his
corner that the fight in announced as a no-contest because it was a kickboxing
only match. An odd start to the event, but fortunately it would be the sole
point of outright controversy.

Matt Coble vs. Sam Cecelia was the fight of the night.
Coble got dropped by a straight right early in the first round. Cecelia
pounced right away and started throwing bombs faster that most people could
hit a speed bag. Coble though, in a true testament to the definition of
"keeping your composure under fire", never gave Cecelia any free
shots. Coble kept his legs busy and his hands up the entire time on the
ground, giving the ref no question as to his ability to continue and defend
himself. The round ends with Cecelia still just mauling Coble on the ground.
The second round both fighters look fresh and they come out hard. Cecelia gets
a takedown and onto his opponent's back. This is where, out of nowhere, the
fight turned. In a flash, Coble is able to reverse his opponent, pass to
mount, get Cecelia's back and sinks in a deep RNC for the tapout win. A
truly impressive come from behind victory for Mike Coble and the crowd
screamed their appreciation.
Coble by RNC round 2
Dave Couchaine def Bryce Beeler in the co-main event by armbar in round 1
Cody Luder def Miles Coble in the main event by RNC round 2.
The lanky Luder never gave Coble any chance to get a ground game going, even
when Coble had the top position. Luder was able to sweep a standing Coble on
two different occasions with his long limbs and eventually got to his back for
the win. |
