(Beverly Hills, CA.) David Torres (20-0, 14 K's) has fought his past 20 fights patiently awaiting the right opportunity to present itself for him to make a name in the sport of professional boxing. Torres has fought the majority of his career 20 fights at the Emerald Queen Casino under his promoter, Brian Halquist Productions "Battle of the Boat" boxing series in Tacoma, Washington. The right opportunity has presented itself this week against former world champion Julio Diaz at the world famous Playboy Mansion as part of the Sycuan Boxing/Brian Halquist Productions fight card to be broadcast live on ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights (8pm pst, 11pm est.). "This is great opportunity for me to fight on this card with this quality of a fighter. The Playboy Mansion "is an amazing place. I'm going to try to look my best and please the crowd. Especially the ones who come down from Washington state", Torres said. Over 100 Torres fight fans are traveling from the Pacific Northwest to watch this fight. "I know it's going to be a tough fight. I know he has more experience than I do, but I'm really ready for this fight. It feels so good to have the support. The way I'm going to thank them is by looking good and winning this fight". Torres hired trainer Steve Rowlands for this fight and set up training camp 6 weeks ago in Las Vegas. Rowlands is impressed with Torres. "David is a very hard worker in the gym and has certainly worked hard for this fight. Torres has had a great camp and great sparring for this fight. I feel David has a very good chance. We have to take the fight to Diaz early and keep pressure on him", Rowland said.

The original fight had Sycuan's Shawn Hawk against Halquist's Eric Fields. That fight fell out and the Diaz vs. Torres fight was on. "This is a great opportunity for David", said promoter Brian Halquist. "Sometimes things happen for a reason and we were disappointed about the Fields - Hawk fight but when we were able to present this fight to David the timing was perfect. David hired his new manager Saul Rodriguez earlier this year, went to a training camp in Chicago, fought in Chicago and won. So, fighting away from home won't be a new experience for him. He has 2 very good training camps under his belt and has an excellent trainer, a great game plan for this fight and really has an opportunity of a lifetime", Halquist said. Timing is everything in life and for David Torres the timing seems to be perfect. Some may think that this is too much of a leap for Torres but manager Saul Rodriguez agreed with many people that David Torres is ready for this fight at this time. "Julio Diaz was just in a war against David Diaz for the world title and I think we have a real good chance here", Rodriguez said. " Obviously we are the underdogs but David has had such an incredible camp and he wants this fight. He's hungry to win. He's been waiting for this opportunity a long time and now he needs to make the most of it", Rodriguez continued.

Now the time is here. Only time will tell the outcome. But Team Torres will certainly make the most of this opportunity.
