Desert Brawl XXX "Friday Night Fury" - September 28th, 2007

Midtown Music Hall - Bend, Oregon

Review by Steve "Spaniard" Roberts

Friday night saw some MMA action in Bend, Oregon again with the hometown production of DesertBrawl Cage Fighting and which brought 6 amateur bouts, and 1 professional bout. The main event was a rematch between Ryan "Ryful" Fulton and Chris "Rock" Eggleston and had quick action from both and some stand up from the Ryful. Fulton landed a nice right hook in the second round, but got deducted a point for kneeing to the head while in north south position and referee Dave Hagen gave the Rock some time to recover. Yet, it didn't matter because the Ryful unloaded on the Rock after he took his back in a scramble and flattened him out. After a nice combo of hooks and hammerfist the fight was stopped and a new 135lb Amateur champion was crowned at 2:32 of round two.

The Desert Dog fight team took home another belt after Justin Fratto (newly sponsored by National Fitness in Bend) brought home the 155 amateur title by dominating Joel Toledo. Fratto was taken down early in the round and positioned a triangle choke after Toledo raised up to strike. Fratto had trouble with the triangle for a second because of being rolled up into the cage and ate some right hands courtesy of Toledo who was trying to beat his way out of the choke. Fratto rolled Toledo over with the triangle choke and started pounding on Toledo until the ref made a good call in protecting Toledo from a very bad position. The ref stopped the fight and Justin Fratto became the new DesertBrawl Amateur 155lb champ.

In Professional action a fight between Northwest Training center fighter Evan Dunham and Desert Dog Talon Hoffman was over quick as Hoffman got his head stuck in a very tight guillotine choke that Dunham was not going to let go. Dunham got the tap-out victory at 38 seconds in round one.

In girl on girl action, debuting Desert Dog fighter Robin Duarte defeated Independent fighter Sarah Everett by TKO at 2:17 in Rd 1. This is the play-by-play: Duarte gets the takedown, Duarte gets mount, and Duarte pounds till she gets the tap-out victory.

A huge KO and a lesson learned came shortly after a missed touch of gloves by Jarod Matthew's and Chris Berry in the opening of their fight. Matthew's went to touch again and Berry was already ready to throw a huge right hand and throw he did because he knocked Matthew's back to last Tuesday with that shot and won the fight in 4 seconds of round one.

Calvin Allen defeated Dave Mcmantis by triangle choke at 1:17 in round one.

Vladamir Matishenko defeated David White by landing a huge right hand while White was on all fours getting up but it was back down he was going because the fight was over in 47 seconds of round one.

Desertbrawl is a JT Taylor and Chris fought production.
