Copa Northwest 8 - November 11th, 2006 Gracie Barra Seattle (Tully's Building) - Seattle, WA Photos by Mike Renouard On Saturday, Nov 11th, inside the old Rainier Brewery along Airport Way in Seattle, the eighth Copa Northwest Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament was held. Nearly 100 competitors from around the region showed up, along with plenty of family and friends, to make for a very lively event. The event organizers, Rodrigo Lopes and Mamazinho of Gracie Barra Seattle, started out with the kids, and then moved to the adults with the women's open and the white belt divisions first, and then the blue belt and purple belt divisions. The day ended with the No Gi competition in two weight classes, which were won by Yakima MMA members Rich Guerin and Bryan Caraway. Tara LaRosa, BodogFIGHT star and one of the world's best female MMA fighters, rolled with the men in both the Purple Belt Gi and the No Gi divisions (You can see her competing for Team USA against the Russians in BodogFight's Live PPV in Vancouver, BC on December 2nd). All in all, Copa Northwest 8 was truly a fun and successful event. Be sure to check out www.BJJSeattle.com for more info on the Copa Northwest Tournaments and the Gracie Barra Seattle school.
