Caros Fodor

26 year old Caros "The Future" Fodor, representing AMC Pankration under Matt Hume and Trevor Jackson, will be fighting Derek Getzel (2-1) in a 155lb matchup this coming Friday night in Jackson, Mississippi on the main card of Strikeforce Challengers: Shaolin vs Wilcox. Fodor spoke with NW Fightscene before he left to Mississippi about the fight, his training at AMC, his day job, and a lot more...

NW Fightscene: What is your overall record?
Caros Fodor: My professional record is 3-0-1, and then my amateur record was 8-2.

NWFS: You're fighting Derek Getzel. What do you know about him?

Fodor: Not much. I know that he's a tall southpaw. And he looks like more of a ground fighter from what we could tell on his tapes. That's pretty much about it.

NWFS: When you don't know much about an opponent, how do you train for him, or is it you kind of train to fight your own game?

Fodor: Yeah pretty much. Matt's training strategy is to never really worry about what the other guys going to do. Just go in there with your gameplan and just worry about carrying out what you plan on doing. So we're not too worried about what he brings. I'm just going to try to do what I'm supposed to do.

NWFS: What does a normal week in training look like for you?

Fodor: Its broken down different days. Mondays and Wednesdays, we usually spend more on ground stuff. Tuesdays and Thursdays is standup. And then Fridays and Saturdays is fighter's training.. more overall stuff, putting things together.

NWFS: Who were your training partners for this camp?

Fodor: For this fight, my main partners were [UFC Fighter] Matt Brown and this guy Brandon Dudley. He's locally from around here and he is amazing. He's not really known but he's a terror and he whoops our ass without a problem. He's just had knee surgery so he's coming out of that and then he's looking to compete again.

NWFS: You're training under coaches Matt Hume and Trevor Jackson. What have they done for your game?

Fodor: They are my game. The only martial arts I really have is from them. Everything they've taught me is pretty much all I've got. I'm trying to grow as a martial artist and keep learning. Trying to just get as good as I can and they're both right there trying to help me. Each fight we're setting new goals, and try to every fight get better and better.

NWFS: So who's cornering you for this fight?

Fodor: Trevor will be with me. Matt will be with Tim Boetsch and Matt Brown [at UFC 123] in Detroit.

NWFS: This is your 2nd fight with Strikeforce. How many fights do you have left on the contract?

Fodor: I think I have two more after this. And then we're going to talk and see what happens.

NWFS: Your nickname is "The Future." How did you get that?

Fodor: This guy at our gym. A real big amateur fighter named Josh Baker, he gave that to me a long time ago. It just kind of stuck by him yelling it out in the gym.

NWFS: What are you doing for work?

Fodor: I work in a foster home in Lake Forest Park with autistic kids. I've been working with autistic kids since I was sixteen, and I've been at this home for about four years now.

NWFS: What do you do there?

Fodor: I'm a caregiver. I do everything with them. I feed them. Take them to their dental appointments, medical appointments. Take them visiting with their parents. And then I do activities with them. Take them to the zoo, stuff like that. Take them to the movies and just hang out with them.

NWFS: How does your day job translate into your fight game?

Fodor: The job is perfect. Its not physical at all. Its pretty chill. You just get to hang out with them really. So it's great for fighting. And my boss is really cool so I get a flexible schedule. So I can work out in the morning and stuff I need to and then work out in the evening. So really its worked out great for fighting.

NWFS: What motivates when you got a fight coming up?

Fodor: Once I get an opponent and a name, and I start looking them up on the internet, that's pretty much my motivation. I concentrate on visualizing him. Fear of losing is what really keeps me on my toes. The worst feeling in the world is losing. I hate that so much. It really bums me out for a long time. So I train really hard to avoid that. And then you stand in the gym and being around the people [like] Matt Brown and all the pros that come in that have fights coming.. and how big the sport's getting. It just keeps me going with everything.

NWFS: You have any sponsors lined up for this fight?

Fodor: For this fight, I've got Clinch Gear, Full Tilt Poker, UnivsallEmbassy.com, and Klench Mouthguards

NWFS: Who'd you like to thank?

Fodor: Like to thank my sponsors, especially Full Tilt and UnivsallEmbassy.com.

My coaches, 100 percent for helping me with everything, and just being there. And my friends and family, who've stuck with me through all of this. And the fans for all their support, they've been awesome. I've been trying really hard and I'm not going to let them down on Friday.
