CageQuest VI Champions with promoters Eddie Blackburn & Brian Johnson
In just their first five shows, Cagequest has built a well-deserved reputation as one of the Pacific Northwest's top amateur events. By meticulously matching up top fighters from around the region, the result has been numerous memorable battles within the Cagequest cage. For CageQuest 6, promoter Eddie Blackburn teamed up with NW Fight Challenge promoter Brian Johnson and the two crafted a 12-bout fight card that once again showcased the NW's best amateur talent.
The Cagequest VI Main Event featured a fight for the promotion's Featherweight Title between Nathan Stolen out of Aberdeen WA's Bad Company MMA and Timothy Lewis of Auburn WA's West Coast Fight Team. In the first round, Lewis played the aggressor, landing with some mean-looking kicks that kept Stolen off balance. Stolen though weathered the storm and in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, began to impose his will with takedowns and solid ground and pound that began breaking Lewis down. In the fourth, Stolen again forced it to the mat, punished Lewis with some body punches, and when Lewis tried to scramble out, Stolen took his back and sunk a rear naked choke at 1:37 of the round.
Charlie's Combat Club fighter Miranda Granger won the Women's Cagequest 125 lb Title via a 3rd round submission of Ground Game MMA's Shelby Miller. Granger utilized a beautiful clinch game throughout the fight, scoring with knees and punches. A big knee to Miller's midsection brought the fight to the ground where Granger skillfully locked in a guillotine choke, eliciting a tap from Miller at 44 seconds of the third round.
Ardany Mora of the White Buffalo Warriors captured the CageQuest Welterweight Title with a first round TKO of Marquez Bryant. Mora dropped Bryant with a big left and then quickly finished with strikes on the ground at 1:19 of the round.
Chris Hartman fighting out of Warrior Strength MMA took home the CageQuest Middleweight Title via 2nd rd KO of Delbert Zimmer. Hartman fought his fight staying on the outside, utilizing his height and long reach advantage to regularly land kicks, jabs, and punches throughout. Zimmer on his part picked his moments to move forward and throw a flurry of punches. Late in the 2nd round, Zimmer rushed forward in attack and a backpedaling Hartman made him pay with a short left that dropped Zimmer and then a big right to finish on the ground for the KO at 2:59 of the 2nd round.
Charlie's Combat Club fighter Joey Elzea weathered a nasty cut and looked impressive against a tough Dillon Serr, winning the CageQuest Bantamweight Title by unanimous judges decision 49-46, 48-47, 48-47.
Combat Sport & Fitness fighter Sean Williams submitted Jacob Romero in the 4th round to win the CageQuest Flyweight belt. Romero was ahead on the cards to that point, utilizing takedowns and a solid ground attack to win rounds. Williams though stayed active throughout the fight, attacking when he had the opportunity, and at 1:26 of the fourth finishing with an impressive armbar submission.
Impact Jiu-jitsu's Anna Dempster and Team Hard Knox's Sarah Bucher battled non-stop for three solid rounds in a high-paced 145lb kickboxing matchup that rounded out the undercard. Both women displayed impressive standup, mixing in speed and power to punish each other. As the fight progressed, Dempster outpaced Bucher in offensive output and the unanimous decision went to Dempster 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.
Another excellent female kickboxing matchup took place in the 130 lb division. The win went to Alex Lind out of Combat Sport & Fitness who earned a unanimous decision win (30-27 x3) over Six Feet Under's Roxanne Paz.
Dave Purnell and Byron Fernadus Jr. went the distance in an excellent lightweight matchup, with Singha MMA's Purnell getting the win via decision 30-27 x3.
In a bantamweight matchup, SNRG's Steven Peterson submitted James Marshal with a slick armbar 2 minutes into their fight.
Ground Game MMA's Mike Holt won a unanimous decision over Olympia BJJ's Alec Kirk in an entertaining welterweight battle.
Welterweights Jake Sebastian and John Lawrence kicked off the show with a high-paced first minute of action before Sebastian got the TKO finish of Lawrence at 1:08 of the round.
