Halquist
Productions & the Emerald Queen Casino presented
CageSport XV with matchmaker Rich Guerin putting together
yet another stellar fight card featuring 20 Northwest Pro
fighters. The main event was to be for the CageSport
Heayvweight Championship featuring challenger Kyle
"The Kodiak" Keeney vs current champ Nick Braker.
However, Braker was forced to pull out due to a blood
infection and it was Josh "The Good Ol' Boy"
Bennett stepping up so that the main event became a fight
for an Interim Heavyweight Title. Keeney, weighing in at
233 lbs, came out hard and fast, bull-rushing the 263 lb
Bennett into the cage and quickly upending him. Bennett
was able to make his way back up but just as soon as he
did so, Keeney had him on his back again. Once more
Bennett inched his way up and once standing, Keeney simply
picked The Good Ol Boy up, carried him to center, and
slammed him to the canvas which rightfully got a huge
crowd reaction. Keeney poured it on, beating Bennett to
the punch on the feet while being unrelenting on the
ground until finally getting Bennett to tap to a Rear
Naked Choke at 2 minutes into the 2nd round.
Fight
of the night belonged to Omar Avelar and Scott Brown in a
135 lb matchup that saw copious amounts of blood spill,
first from a cut over Brown's eye and as the fight
progressed Avelar too was bleeding. Avelar utilized his
wresting skills well, getting Brown against the cage where
he methodically broke Brown down with punches and elbows.
Brown did well in defending and was active throughout, but
Avelar's quickness proved the difference and he ended the
fight with a flurry of punches that punctuated his
victory. All 3 judges saw it for Avelar 30-27.
George
Stork employed a vicious ground attack that Justin Davis
had no answer for in a 190 lb catchweight bout. Much of
the first was spent with Davis on the defensive and Stork
landing plenty of punches and elbows while working hard to
maintain top control of Davis. In the 2nd, Stork turned it
up and allowed Davis no respite so that ref Randy Corley
has to finally step in midway through the 2nd.
Veteran
of the NW amateur scene circa 2004-06, Eddie "One
Speed" Blackburn returned to the cage for his pro MMA
debut and convincingly took out Justin Gardner, smothering
him on the ground before working into position for a fight
ending North-South Choke at 4:17 of Rd 1. Craig Jackson of
Team Redline, in only his 4th pro fight, looked sharp in
going up in weight and outworking 27 fight veteran Brad
Nordquist and eventually getting Nordquist to succumb to a
guillotine at 4:07 Rd 1.
Other
submissions on the night included Ryan Mulvihill out of
Spokane getting Tim "One Punch" Abell to tap to
a RNC and Will Hunt of John Day OR getting Jorey Taylor to
tap to an armbar, both fights at 145 lbs and both ending
just under 2 minutes into the first round.
CageSport
MMA will be back at the Emerald Queen Casino on October
1st with CageSport XVI. In the interim, Halquist Productions
will showcase top pro boxing talent with Battle at the
Boat 83 on August 27th. And on September 17th the
long-running Guns N' Hoses charity boxing event returns to
the EQC with police officers and fire fighters from around
the NW battling it out in amateur boxing contests that
goes to raise money for the Pacific NW Amateur Boxing Association
and additional children's charities. More info at halquistproductions.com.
