If you thought the crowd at the Baymont Inn & Suites ballroom was going to be small for The Shipyard Brawl IV, you might have thought you were at the wrong event. The room was filled to the brim and the audience was anxious for the unfolding of the 9 bout card. For those who came to be shocked and awed, the evening was not a waisted venture.

Several Cage Warrior Combat Championship belts were awarded from previous events. Carl Edwards of Full circle received the first. "I'd like to thank my friends at Full Circle," Edwards said. "This takes a lot of hard work and dedication. I'm glad to be a part of the sport." Others claiming belts were Chris Wheaton and Greg Abe.

Rough House MMA pitted two of their fighters against lone guns posted in the blue corner of the cage. Neither indy newcomer was left standing. Long Lee fell to Rough House's Rob Ramsey after Ramsey connected with a storm of tight punches while in a mount. Adam Osbourne was stripped of energy by RJ Hoyt in the first round. Stunned after several solid connections, Osbourne found himself overwhelmed, refusing a second round.

Redneck Militia's Nick Stanford stood against Ring Sports United fighter Tony Sakounthong in the third bout. The fight went all three rounds with each fighter withstanding the strength of one another's strikes and dominating maneuvers. The judges had to make a call and all three scored it 29-27 with Sakaounthong taking home the win.

Jay Elliot of Rough House was caught in a rear naked choke at 1:53 seconds of the first round of the fourth bout by Curtis Iglesias of Team Evolution. Michael Kobasa of Redneck Militia took out Tyler Barret in the first round of the fifth bout by triangle choke in a real crowd pleaser. Rob Cann of Rough House ended the sixth bout expediently with a circuit of punches leading to the knockout of Redneck Militia's John Sandoval.

Joe Allen of Redneck Militia continuously gained head control over an equally cold Eugene Mullens Jr. of Team Evolution eventually taking the bout by ref stoppage due to strikes. "I thought it would be more of a stand-up war," Joe said shrugging "but...".

James Pollard of House of Stone took the eighth bout in the second round by triangle choke, even after a hideous blow to his side from the knee of Jesse Barich (Rough House).

In the main event, Rough House's Will Montgomery and Redneck Militia's Steve Wing captivated the entire audience. Montgomery blew up with punches in the first round, but Wing was able to connect with several himself. Wing took a kick to the face and began bleeding from the nose. His nose, devastated, seemed only to pique his intensity, his eyes went wide with calm focus. Both opponents brutally calculated steps toward victory. They were carefully picking through the suggestive screams from trainers, friends, and boos from the rival crowd to find motivation. The fight went into the third round where Wing took head control until gaining the opportunity to unload catastrophic punches from mount, winning via ref stoppage.

"We measure our success by whether or not the crowd had a good night," said Cage Warrior Combat Promoter Tad Bremer. "We feel that our goals were met. The next show will be in January, and we expect a larger turnout." Bremer says that their main goal is the Pavilion and feels it is possible as the fan base for The Shipyard Brawl continues to grow. Additionally, Bremer ended his interview with a heart-felt note. "This sport is often chastised as being brutal and senseless. The truth is, it does positive things for people." Bremer explained that many of the outcasts of society find their way to the sport. In a reality where they often feel a senseless need to destroy, they are able to focus their energy where respect and humbleness must come in to play.
