Main Event winner and COGA 185 lb Interim Champion Jorge Moreno

Combat Games MMA set up shop inside the Swinomish Casino's Wa-walton Event Center for Battle at the Bay 11. A total of 6 pro and 4 amateur bouts went down, including a female lightweight showdown in the main event. In the house was UFC Light Heavyweight Tom Lawlor, as well as WSOF fighter Ben Fodor/Phoenix Jones who was on hand to do commentary with Jeff "The Fish" Aaron for the live stream.

Two hard-hitting females, both making their pro debuts, were featured in the main event. Jessica Bakan Hoy, fighting under the C3 banner, took on Team Quest’s Jessica Eve Richer in a 155 lb showdown. From the opening bell, Hoy was the aggressor, punishing Richer on the ground and on the feet. Richer though would rebound and score with some hard standup of her own. The fight had a back-and-forth feel for a while before Bakan Hoy began taking over as the bout progressed. In the third round, Bakan Hoy got a takedown and gained top position where she unleashed a series of strikes that forced a ref stoppage at 1:54 of the round. Great fight!

The Battle @ the Bay XI co-main event featured two debuting pro lightweights in Livewire MMA’s Alan Gutierrez and Base Fitmass MMA”s Ryan Schecterson. Gutierrez came out firing big kicks that eventually set up a takedown. Once on the mat, Gutierrez took Schecterson’s back and sunk a deep rear naked choke that forced a tap from Schecterson at 2 minutes into the first round.

Former WA State fighter, Cory Hendricks - now based in Las Vegas with Syndicate MMA - wasted little time in chalking up his 2nd pro win by submitting Derek Harris with a rear naked choke at just 28 seconds into their light heavyweight matchup.

Bellingham MMA’s Brock Gorang displayed a dangerous grappling game in winning hiis pro deubt against Hawaiian fighter Nathan Feitosa in a 160 lb catchweight bout. Gorang got it to the mat quickly where he worked a straight armlock before transitioning to a triangle choke, punishing Feitosa with punches before locking up the choke for the tap from Feitosa at 1:43 of the first round.

AKA’s “Tiny” Thomas Hoeper and Hybrid MMA’s AJ Weber met in a 215 lb catchweight bout that was the Fight of the Night. Hoeper standing at 6’7” talll, had a 9 inch height advantage and corresponding reach advantage over Weber, so Weber’s game plan was to nullify the size by taking Hoeper to the mat and try to punish Hoeper on the ground. Although, Weber did have some success early, he was never able to hold Hoeper down for long and as the fight progressed, ate a lot of big punches from Hoeper as he tried repeatedly to take him to the mat. Late in the third round, Hoeper got Weber up against the cage and then used his height and strength to submit Weber with a standing guillotine choke at the 4:18 mark.

Featherweight Carson Frei, fighting out of Rose City FC, picked up his first professional win by submitting Hawaiian fighter Zach Zane via 1st round rear naked choke.

Rose City FC’s Nelson Hernandez took a lot of punishment from Ruben Fortuna in the first round of their amateur lightweight contest, but turned it around in the 2nd and submitted Fortuna with a d’arce choke at 1:47 of the round.

A big takedown by debuting Josh Heald of Elite BJJ set up a rear naked choke submission of Livewire MMA’s Amedeo Conta at just 50 seconds into their amateur lightweight bout.

In an amateur 155 lb bout, Orcas Island FC’s Joseph Seagult verbally tapped due to an knee injury sustained in a takedown attempt at just 16 seconds in, giving Rose City FC’s Peter Riojas the victory.

In the opening fight of the night, two debuting amateurs got the crowd going with an action-packed middleweight bout won by Ivan Salaverry MMA’s Victor Diaz via 2nd round TKO to strikes of Livewire MMA’s Quinton Roppel.

Combat Games MMA will hold Battle @ The Bay 12 at the Swinomish Casino on Saturday July 17th 2015, followed by Rumble on the Ridge 32 at the Snoqualmie Casino on Friday July 31st. More information at combatgamesmma.com.
