Press Conference Q & A w/ Roy Jones, Jr., Steve Forbes & Jason Davis

Portland, OR (Mar 5th, 2009) - Spirit Mountain Casino and Roy Jones, Jr. held a press conference with Steve Forbes and Jason Davis at the Rose Garden yesterday to announce his seven-fight card, "Border War," which will take place at Spirit Mountain Casino this Friday at 8 p.m.

The following is a transcript of the Q & A that took place with Jones, Forbes & Davis:

Jason Davis:
Q: What is it like for you to be fighting at Spirit Mountain Casino and being so close to your home?
A: It's a wonderful opportunity for me because it's close to home and everyone who hasn't seen me fight yet can come see me. It's nice to be on the first card at Spirit Mountain and I hope to fight on all the rest to come.

Q: What do you expect from Steve Forbes and what are you preparing for with him?
A: I'm preparing for him to come at me. I'm pretty sure he's going to come at me and be aggressive in the first few rounds and I think he'll taper off towards the later rounds.

Q: Any predictions from you on your side?
A: I'm just going to box; that's what I do best. I'm a technical boxer, I've got a long reach and I'm quite a bit taller than Steve. So I've got to use what I have to my advantage.

Q: Would you call this a signature fight for you; is this a fight that maybe will make a name for you in the area and in the northwest?
A: Definitely. No matter what, this fight will boost my career. Steve's got a big name. He's fought De La Hoya; he's fought a lot of good guys. So, I can make a statement fighting Steve.

Steve Forbes:
Q: How does it feel being back in Portland?
A: It feels great being backing Portland. I started my career here. I was born and raised here, so to be back in Portland and in a big event is the best thing in the world. I've fought De La Hoya and fought in the Contender - those are big events, but it's nothing like being in your home town, which makes it even sweeter.

Q: You mentioned the De La Hoya fight; a lot of people praise you for that fight. You had a huge review. It was the fight of your life and you fought very well. Can you carry that momentum into a fight with Jason Davis?
A: Absolutely. Any time you get into the ring you learn more and gain better confidence. I like being in the big fight with the big spotlight; the championship fight that's viewed by everybody. In order for me to continue I have to love what I do, and I do. I enjoy boxing. I enjoy being in this position and it definitely carries over because you want to go out there and look great; so that's my plan.

Q: Davis has already said this is a signature fight for him, win or lose. How do you feel about him; he's looking to become a dominate fighter in the northwest now?
A: I look at it like I look at any challenge. You've got to take challenges head on. I was once in that spot where I wanted to make a name. It took me a long time. I've been a professional 12 years. I've worked my butt off for 12 years as a professional just to be in a spot where I'm getting that attention, and I'm going to continue until I'm done fighting.

Q: He says he expects you to come out hard early and feels he's got an advantage in the later rounds. What is your strategy going into this fight?
A: Well I don't know how much of an advantage being in 13 professional fights is when I've been in eight world championship fights with legitimate fighters who can destroy at any moment, and 90 percent of the time I've beat those guys. So if he thinks later in the fight is going to be better for him then he's going to be really mistaken. Later in the fight is when a champion does the most damage. That's inexperience talking, but it's good though because it gets his blood boiling. I'm a 12-round championship fighter; he's never fought 12 rounds. I've fought 12 rounds seven times; so it's a big difference and you'll see that come Friday.

Roy Jones, Jr.
Q: You've fought here but you've never promoted a fight here. What is it like being back in Portland?
A: It's wonderful; it gives me a great feeling just being back here because it was such a great event when I fought here. It's such a thrill just to be here.

Q: You have Forbes and Davis - two local guys on the card called "Border War," what's your thinking about that?
A: I just thought it was a great opportunity for the people in Portland to come watch guys they are familiar with to start them out. It's somebody they can relate to; somebody they know, and that makes a great fight.

Q: Tickets are pretty reasonable, $25. There are great seats available at Spirit Mountain. Why should people come out and see the fights?
A: It will be a great fight. It's an opportunity for a different type of entertainment that we don't have here a lot. I like to see there's a turnout here because it's possible I might want to come back to Portland and fight again. The people treated me like I've never been treated when I came here before. I really had a great time and I know they are wonderful fans. They're very hospitable here; they treated me with some of the best hospitality I've ever had. So I think it will be a wonderful card and you'll also have a chance to see the best.
