The
I-5 Showroom at the Emerald Queen Casino was the place to
be Sat night as incredible evening of boxing and beauty
took place with Battle at the Boat 82: Fight Night to the
Playboy Mansion. Besides the 6 professional boxing
contests, Playboy returned to EQC with Playmates Bridget
Marquardt, Pilar Lastra, Hiromi Oshima, &
Tacoma's own Stacy Fuson entertaining the crowd. There was
also a ring girl contest
and
it was Vanessa winning the opportunity to represent in LA
at the July 30th
"Fight
Night at the Playboy Mansion" which will feature both
pro boxing and MMA.
In
the main event, hometown favorite "Vicious"
Vincent Thompson had little trouble with Kelsey Arnold and
moved to 8-0 with an efficient performance in their
heavyweight matchup. After 6 rounds of action, all 3
judges saw it 60-54.
The
Co-main event featured two Yakima fighters: Natividad Serrano
at 2-0 going up against Randell Corpuz making his debut.
This was the night's highest paced bout with neither
fighter slowing in their welterweight fight. Serrano had
the edge however in speed and accuracy, slipping in
numerous shots that knocked Corpuz off his step. By the
end of four rounds, Corpuz' face was worse for the wear
and Serrano moved to 3 and 0 with two judges seeing it
39-37 and the third 40-36.
Shane Andreesen
out of British Columbia spoiled Tacoma's Jonte Willis
return to the EQC stage with a come-from-behind knockout
in the fifth round of their 6 round Heavyweight fight.
Willis looked sharp through the first 4 rounds
and was certainly ahead on all scorecards, when in the
fifth Andreesen caught Willis with a big shot that wobbled
him and put him on the defensive. Andreesen started
swinging for the fences to put away Willis but Willis was
able to keep away from most of the big shots until
finally, one landed flush and dropped Willis through the
ropes at 2:04 in Rd 5.
In
a
135 lb bout, Seattle's Rob Diezel utilized his speed to
counter Aaron Schupp's length, finding a comfortable
rhythm on the inside and connecting with a left that sent
Schupp to sleep at 2:35 in the second round.
In
an solid Heavyweight fight, Sylvester Barron out of
Anacortes WA took all 4 rounds and scored a knockdown over
Ija Flapping Eagle to win via judges decision (all scoring
it 40-35). The nights first bout was also an entertaining
affair with Atlanta's
Gerald Fischer
squeaking out a Split Decision win over Nicholaus Briannes
that
came after Briannes had a point deducted for pressing his
arm into Fischer's throat as he had him against the ropes.
Battle
at the Boat 83 is scheduled for August 27th. In the
interim, promoter Brian Halquist will be holding CageSport
XV at the Emerald Queen Casino on July 16th with another
exciting evening of all-pro mixed martial arts action. He
will also be co-promoting the July 30th Fight Night at the
Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.
