Undefeated Australian champion to face local favorite in super middleweight main event
TACOMA, Wash. – A top-10 world ranking could be at stake when undefeated Australia champion Jake Carr makes his U.S. debut against hometown favorite Mike Gavronksi in the main event of Battle at the Boat 107 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash. on Sept. 10.
Carr, a native of Victoria, Australia, brings a stellar 11-0 record into the 10-round super middleweight bout with four victories coming via knockout. One of those KOs came against Zac Awad (18-4-1) on Dec. 12, 2013. The win claimed the Australian super middleweight crown for Carr – a title he has yet to lose.
Gavronksi brings an equally impressive record (20-2-1) into the contest. Known for his toughest, Gavronksi turned into a fan favorite at the Emerald Queen by winning five consecutive fights at the Tacoma casino over a one-year span. His winning streak ended in his last outing, however, when he lost to Dashon Johnson on Nov. 7. The contest, which was for the WBA-NABA USA super middleweight championship, was a rematch from their Jan. 1, 2015 fight, which Gavronski won.
Gavronski’s only other career setback occurred against current WBC Silver middleweight champion Tureano Johnson two years ago when Gavronski lost by decision in a bout for the vacant WBC Continental Americas middleweight title.
“This main event has so many intriguing subplots heading into it. Mike is attempting to rebound from a rare loss, Jake is fighting in the United States for the first time and trying to stay undefeated, and the winner of this fight could very easily see themselves ranked in the top 10 depending on the outcome,” said promoter Brian Halquist. “It’s just a fantastic match-up. Gavronksi always puts on a show for the Tacoma crowd and from what I’ve seen from Carr, it’s a world class main event.”
Tickets are available through the EQC box office and all Ticketmaster Outlets. Preliminary bouts start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Battle at the Boat 107 will feature the all new VIP experience with 3rd Row Seats being discounted to $75 per ticket. All fans seated in in the VIP section (rows 1-3) will have an exclusive access point and a dedicated server to help create a true VIP experience.
