With 14 high action fights packed onto one card,
AX Fighting
delivered high quality fights for the 16th time. Edmonds Community College was packed with fans ready to get their fill of knockouts, RNCs and
Zipfizz. Some UFC celebrities were also in the crowd, Ed Herman and Chris Leben. World renowned coach Matt Hume also brought a few of his fighters, who in turn brought their A-game.
A few highlights of the night: Vern Beach made his debut against James Dujardin (debuting also) who did not answer the bell at the beginning of round 2 due to Vern's solid leg kicks. 15 year old Jonah Sitchaisai put up a fantastic show of heart against Christian Ortiz but got caught in a rough guillotine a minute into round 2. Drew Brokenshire put up a great fight against Eddie Dahlen but Eddie capitalized with his superior ground game and finished it near the end of the final round by sinking in a
RNC.
In the one submission wrestling bout of the night, Scott Sitchaisai fought valiantly against Matt Coble. Scott didn't tap to a vicious looking guillotine. Even I had to look away for a second, because it looked like it was really sunk in. But alas, he fought out of that, but got caught in a
kimura. He did a good job defending the kimura, but Matt did a better job holding on to it. The ref had to stop it for fear that Scott wasn't going to tap until his arm broke. Remember, safety comes first at AX, and although the call wasn't appreciated by the fans, it was in the best interest of Scott's arm.
James Semere, an independently trained fighter from Everett walked away with an unexpected victory over Clint Heines with a RNC in round 2. Garret Bargabos and
Brandon Lohmeire went the distance in back and forth action that landed Brandon the unanimous victory. Mario Miranda making his Muay Thai debut, also picked up a unanimous victory over Will Sitchaisai Mario threw at least 3-5 head kicks per round, and Will showed great heart by continuing to press on throughout the remainder of the match.
Earl Thompson made what seemed to me to be a comeback victory in the 3rd round by knocking out Ryan Alveraz early in the 3rd round, after Ryan had been quite aggressive in the previous 2 rounds. Jeff Sweeny kept getting back up every time Caros Fodor knocked him down, but it just wasn't enough. Caros took the victory after Jeff hit the mat for the 3rd time, almost 2 minutes into Round 2 of their Muay Thai match.
In the Battle of the Undefeated, Robert Malphrus remained the undefeated
after he knocked out Levi Alford 30 seconds into Round 2. However, it was not easy for Robert, as they both traded some high head kicks at the start of round 1. The end of that same round ended with a leg lock fight.
